Cafe Three-Zero Take 7 Author Interview – with Heidi McFadden

Each week we are featuring a couple of our now published authors, and inviting them to answer 7 questions about their writing and inspirations. They have all contributed to our first eBook, Tales From The Cafe: Vol 1, details of which are posted on our home page. Our sixth interview features Heidi McFadden.  You can also find out a little more about Heidi on her author page…

Q1 Give us some background on yourself?

I spent the first part of my life slowly moving down the East Coast of the UK until I ended up at a girls’ grammar school in Essex. This was followed by a brief sojourn at the University of Reading and then the University of Surrey, Roehampton. Over that time I studied; English Literature, Classical Civilisation, History, Politics, Philosophy, Law and Education! Since then I’ve been teaching English to grammar school boys and forcing them to do creative writing so it only seemed fair to do some myself.

Q2 What was the basis for your story in Tales from the Cafe, Vol 1?

The basis for my story was the news coverage of the Arab Spring.

Q3 Why did you want to become an author?

To be honest I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up but author is definitely on the list of probabilities!

Q4 Any advice for fledgling authors?

Write, write and write some more.

Q5 What authors do you like and admire?

I love Dickens, Christie, Shakespeare, Marlowe, Shelley, Winterson and loads more. As for an author I admire, it would have to be Terry Pratchett for a variety of reasons.

Q6 What do you do when you’re not writing fiction?

Teach, mark, direct school plays and bake. I really like baking.

Q7 What will you do if you become famous?

Be hideously embarrassed probably!
